Privacy Policy

The European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force on May 25th 2018 and has major implications worldwide. European citizens now have multiple digital rights over their personal details, including the right to be asked to provide consent for the storage of personal details in a database, the right to be asked to provide consent to be contacted, the right to see the personal information stored, the right to be forgotten including having all personal details permanently removed from a database, the right to know who this information is shared with (consent is also required for this), and the right to be contacted should a significant data breach occur. All of these changes must be prospectively acknowledged by the user and cannot be presumed to have occurred. The proof rests with the websites to be able to demonstrate consent has been obtained. It is likely almost all websites in the world will move to this model, unless they wish to limit access to European citizens, which would be difficult technically. As a result, we have updated our privacy policy accordingly. We took as example the updated privacy policy of Critical Care Reviews, a sister website providing FOAM content...

What information do we collect about you?

When registering with International Fluid Academy website as a life-long free membership we collect some basic information about you. This is required to send the newsletter and inform us about the clinicians using this site so we can best tailor our services to your requirements. For those registering for the International Fluid Academy Days meetings (IFAD) or Critical and Acute Care Ultrasound (CACU) or BElgian Annual eCmo Hands-on (BEACH) courses or iFADmini, or filling in a survey via SurveyMonkey (or other platforms) further professional or scientific information is required, including grade, speciality, and hospital and RIZIV/INAMI (Belgium), BIG (The Netherlands) or other GMC/Registration number. This information is necessary for EACCME accreditation and also to ask you for evaluation and feedback (obligatory for EACCME) and to inform you about future editions of the IFAD, CACU, BEACH and iFADmini meetings. For those ordering print copies of the online FOAM resources like the CACU book or IFAD proceedings, we also require an address to send this to.

How do we collect this information

Your details are collected using the website & newsletter registration page, meeting registration page and book pages. We DO NOT use cookies but we do use google analytics to generate viewing statistics for the site, which are not identifiable to any individual.

How will we use the information about you?

Your information is used to send the newsletter and IFAD proceedings or CACU or other FOAM books, and to inform you about the changing contents of the website, meetings, blog pages, FOAM resources (presentation videos, powerpoint slides, open access PDF's, photos, etc.) books and podcasts.

Who is your information shared with?

The newsletters are sent via MailChimp, a standard commercial emailing facility, who have access to your email address for this purpose only. Payments for the different meetings and book are handled by either PayPal, Eventbrite or Whova. The IFAD meetings are accredited and endorsed by different international scientific societies who may request the delegate log for the meeting in order to check whether the delegates may receive the endorsing society membership discount. The meeting sponsors receive a list of delegates attending the meeting, including name, grade, speciality, hospital and country. They DO NOT receive your personal contact details nor email. This is standard at medical conferences and ensures the sponsors are targeting the audience appropriate to their requirements.

Marketing

We do not share your details with any 3rd parties outside of the above relationships, all of which are necessary for the International Fluid Academy to continue to function as a not-for-profit organisation providing free open access medical education (FOAM). Any future relationship will similarly be to enable the International Fluid Academy to add or replace functionality. We do not share or sell your details with commercial parties for the purpose of them contacting you independently of the International Fluid Academy.

For users who have made a commercial transaction, such as paying for IFAD or related meeting registration or ordering a copy of a book, we are required by law to keep these financial records for a period of time.
